April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month – Teal Ribbons will be placed around our community by the Women’s Center on April 1st
March 31, 2021
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month.
The Women’s Center is raising awareness by placing “teal ribbons” around our community. Teal is a color that symbolizes trust and healing for survivors. It also symbolizes the devotion that advocates have against sexual violence in trying to fight back. With everything that we are seeing in the media today regarding discrimination; please don’t forget that people from all walks of life can be affected by sexual assault. It does not matter your gender, orientation, color, or age. 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men, have reported experiencing sexual assault in their lifetime.
April is a time for us to come together as a community and raise awareness to stop the violence. By placing teal ribbons around our communities and wearing teal; we are showing the world that we will not stand by and watch. I ask that everyone wear teal to not only support victims and survivors of sexual assault, but to help raise awareness and to fight back against sexual assault.
