Teal Lake Dock Project Press Release

JOINT PRESS RELEASE
RE: Joint Dock Project $114K Grant Submittal
The City of Ishpeming, City of Negaunee, and the Rotary Club of Ishpeming are announcing that that the City of Ishpeming has applied for a MDNR Michigan Department of Natural Resources Trust Fund grant and for a grant through the Recreation Passport Grant Program. Both grants are being sought in order to improve the chances that one may partially fund the estimated $152,000.00 cost of the project.
Spearheaded by the Rotary Club of Ishpeming, the project calls for the installation of two dock systems one on each end of Teal Lake.
Both docks will be provided by EZ-Dock and will be of universal accessible design, one step higher than ADA standards. The docking system on the west-side (Ishpeming), will handle both canoes and kayaks. The east-side (Negaunee), will be able to handle canoes, kayaks, and the sculls used by the Marquette Rowing Club.
This project is slated for a 2022 completion date, but depends on funding availability.
Currently, the Rotary Club of Ishpeming has already committed $10,000 to the overall project and is looking to add funding from a Rotary District Grant, that could provide up to an additional $7500.00. In addition to this commitment, the club recently submitted a grant to the TruNorth Credit Union which was awarded in the amount of $1000.00 for the project.
City Councils from both communities have pledged $5000 each.
Both Communities have rallied behind this project and have provided fourteen different letters of support. Both Managers believe this project meets the needs of the Ishpeming-Negaunee area, as well as, Marquette County.
All three partners now begin the post application period and eagerly await to hear from the MDNR. An indicator of success/failure will come between mid-August and September of this year, when preliminary scores are issued. Final scores and project recommendations will be announced December 2021.
Questions concerning this release may be directed to the attention of City Managers, Nate Heffron at (906) 475-7700 ext. 11, and Craig Cugini at (906) 485-1091 ext. 204.
