ISHPEMING CITY COUNCIL

The Ishpeming City Council consists of five (5) members elected from the City at large. Each council member serves a term of four (4) years and is limited to serve two (2) consecutive terms. The term of office for a newly elected council member and Mayor begins at the December organizational meeting.

The Mayor is elected at each General City Election. Those council members whose terms do not expire immediately following the General Election are automatically candidates for the office of Mayor.

NOTICE OF VACANCY ON THE CITY COUNCIL

There is a vacant seat on the Ishpeming City Council for the unexpired term of Councilmember Ben Argall.  Individuals interested in being appointed must be a resident of and registered to vote in the City of Ishpeming to be qualified.  Qualified candidates must file a nominating petition and file a sworn affidavit of identity, in-person, at the City Clerk’s Office.  The deadline for filing is Friday, April 17, 2026 at 4:00 p.m.

Following confirmation of qualifications, a list of all qualified candidates will be presented to the City Council. The Council will review, discuss and appoint by majority vote at their special Council meeting to be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at 6:00 p.m.  Question can be directed to Cathy Smith, City Clerk at 906-485-1091, Ext. 203.
