Currently, the Ishpeming Police Department answer calls with regards to stray dogs and cats within the City of Ishpeming.  If the Ishpeming Police department picks up a stray dog or cat, the officers attempt to locate the owner of the animal and or check to see if there is any identification of the animal on a collar or a microchip.

If the owner can not be located, the dog or cat is brought to the Ishpeming Township Pound.  The Ishpeming Township pound is a registered animal shelter through the Michigan Department of Agriculture.

If any resident has lost their dog or cat, they can call the Ishpeming Police Department at 906-486-4416 or call Central Dispatch at 906-475-9912 and request an officer call them back.  If we have taken your dog or cat as a stray, you can have that animal returned as soon as an officer is available and the fee for housing the animal is paid.

If a resident picks up a stray dog or cat they may choose to bring the animal to UPAWS
